Famous record producer Dr. Dre is being sued by former rap mogul Suge Knight for allegedly hiring a hitman to kill him. The incident occurred back in 2014 while Knight attended a party hosted by Chris Brown. At the party, a man shot Knight 7 times but fortunately he survived. Now in 2016, Knight is accusing Dre of paying that man to shoot him at the party. Of course, Dre denies any involvement in that incident.
The idea that Dre was behind the shooting first came about after the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department found a suspect nicknamed “T-Money” or “Damian” and questioned him about the shooting. The man claimed that Dr. Dre paid him money to shoot and kill Knight. However, this man was never arrested and no one else has been arrested in connection with the shooting. This is what led Knight to finally sue Dre in civil court.
In addition to suing Dre, Knight is also suing Universal Studios for allegedly collaborating with Dre and paying $300,000 to the man so he would kill him. Universal helped finance the autobiographical film “Straight Outta Compton” which is about the success of the rap group called N.W.A. This was a group which featured early rappers like Ice Cube, Easy-E and, of course, Dr. Dre.
Suge Knight and Dr. Dre cofounded “Death Row Records.” Knight left the company in 1996 but said Dr. Dre owes him 30% of his earnings for the rest of his life because they made a lifetime management deal which guaranteed he’d get that amount. Knight believes Dre might have wanted him killed because he didn’t want to pay him that money. Dr. Dre’s lawyers are denying these accusations made by Knight.
