On Wednesday, the Chicago police said that one woman and two men have been arrested in connection with the attack of a mentally disturbed man that was broadcast live on Facebook. The female suspect was reportedly the one who broadcast the incident while the other men were beating and taunting the victim. This incident is believed to be a hate crime because the victim was white and the suspects were black.
The graphic video went on for as long as 30 minutes. It shows the white male victim tied up with a gag over his mouth while his attackers are laughing and racially taunting him. They even shouted “F*ck white people” and “F*ck Donald Trump” while they were punching and kicking the victim. In one part of the video, there is even someone with a knife who cuts into the victim’s scalp which ended up leaving a bald patch there.
Authorities claim the 18-year-old victim is a special needs person. Police officers discovered the victim after he was wandering around a street in Chicago while looking totally disoriented. The victim appeared to be so traumatized that he couldn’t even tell the officers what happened to him right away. Eventually, he calmed down later in the night and was able to talk to police about what happened to him.
All the suspects are 18-years-old and have been arrested. They are awaiting formal charges to be brought against them, which should happen later Thursday. Authorities say the victim likely knew one of the suspects from school. And although the victim likely got into their van on his own, police may still bring kidnapping charges against the suspects. Also, the racial aspect of this case is making the police consider bringing hate crime charges against them too.
The video has since been pulled from Facebook.
