For the last few weeks, former Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein started a petition to get many of the swing states like Wisconsin to perform a recount of their votes from the presidential election. On Friday, Wisconsin state officials announced they are going to conduct a recount of the votes in the state starting late next week.
The Administrator of the Wisconsin Election Commission, Michael Haas, released a statement about the recount. He said, “The Commission is preparing to move forward with a statewide recount of votes for President of the United States, as requested by these candidates.” Of course, the biggest obstacle for the state is the cost of performing a statewide recount. The Wisconsin Election Commission is currently trying to get a cost estimate on this before they actually do it.
Jill Stein already raised over $4 million in order to fund the recounts. Once the election commission in Wisconsin figures out the cost of the recount, they are going to require Stein’s campaign to cover these costs before the actual recount begins. So as soon as Stein makes the payment using the money that was donated to the campaign, the state will begin recounting the votes.
Jill Stein doesn’t have any fantasies that she’ll somehow win Wisconsin. The reason she petitioned for a recount is because the difference in votes between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was less than 30,000. Since Trump won Wisconsin, Stein is looking for any reason she can to try and bring Trump down.
Even if by some miracle a recount showed that Clinton won Wisconsin, she still wouldn’t have enough electorates to defeat Trump. This is the hard truth that many liberals don’t want to face. Donald Trump is going to be the next president of the United States no matter what Jill Stein or the supporters of the petition try to do to stop him.
