Rapper Rick Ross is in a little bit of trouble with the Internal Revenue Service. In the years 2012, 2013, and 2014, he reportedly didn’t pay as much taxes as he was supposed to. Reports show he had accumulated back taxes in the amount of $5.7 million. In 2012 alone, he underpaid his taxes by $4.6 million. In 2013 and 2014, he owed about $500,000 in taxes for each of those years.
The IRS issued a tax lien against Ross in the amount of $5.7 million for the total of all those taxes in which he didn’t pay. If Ross does not pay this tax lien, he could possibly face legal troubles because of it.
Many celebrities tend to think that they can get away with not paying their income taxes. If you remember what happened with actor Wesley Snipes, you know that even the rich and famous can face criminal charges if they don’t pay their income taxes. This doesn’t mean Ross will have to face the same fate as Snipes had to. But it is possible if he continues to avoid paying his taxes.
On a side note, Ross has had an ongoing friendly feud with Rapper 50 Cent that has been going on for years. Ross’s tax situation has given 50 Cent a reason to make fun of him, which he has done on Twitter. There is no telling whether Ross can laugh off the criticism or take it seriously.
50 Cent posted the following tweet in response to Ross’s IRS troubles: “”Nah can’t be. Oh yes it can, bye bye. LMAO.”
Ross certainly has the money to pay his back taxes off as he continues selling his songs and performing live in front of audiences all around the world. The question is whether he will take his income taxes more seriously in the future.
