Black Friday is said to be the busiest shopping day of the year which is why retail stores have discounts in the first place. Their hopes are to get as many shoppers into their stores as possible.
This year’s Black Friday saw numerous shoppers lined up for great deals on electronics which is a big seller amongst shoppers. The retail industry is predicting to have a record number of sales on this Black Friday weekend. Fortunately, there were no reports of people stampeding over each other when the stores opened their doors to them. There even seemed to be fewer fights this year compared to previous years.
One reason for the decrease in violence on Black Friday may have to do with internet sales. Don’t forget that retail stores still calculate online purchases as part of their Black Friday sales record. According to Adobe Digital Insights, over $3 billion in online sales were made on this year’s Black Friday. This makes a new record for the amount of money spent for online purchases on Black Friday. After the weekend is up, analysts expect the sales amount to exceed $5 billion. If this happens, it means there would have been 11.4% more online purchases this year on Black Friday than in 2015’s Black Friday.
Perhaps, people are finally catching on that they don’t have to stand in line for hours to get great deals on products when they can just purchase these products over the internet. However, many physical retail stores still open up their doors on Thanksgiving night and stay open all throughout the next day. This proves there are still people who don’t mind waiting to shop in person at their favorite stores.
